An activity which is considered memorable is the one which suffices the following conditions: a big number of attendees, a pleasant program, and an enthusiastic atmosphere. The "Cheese and Wine" night of the Board of Trustees comprised all these in it. The event which was attended by 175 people, friends of the college, teachers, graduates, and parents, took place on Saturday, January 23, 2010.
Dikran Kalousdian, a member in the Board of Trustees, by making the opening speech of the event, said that the difficult economical situation of Lebanon makes us all with collective efforts confront this problem and do our best to preserve our academic institutions and especially to preserve the only secondary college in Bourj Hammoud, Levon and Sophia Hagopian Armenian College.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the college, Kalousdian welcomed the presence and wished that through such events the big family of the college would often assemble because through assembling and uniting we could become stronger.
After that, Danny, the magician, started the program of the day, and for half an hour astonished the presence through his various kinds of magic; he made pigeons disappear, chains break, pictures change, and 10,000 L.L. turn to 100,000 L.L.; as a result, he entertained everybody.
After Danny’s magic, Simon Gosdantinian performed by his accordion. He created a pleasant atmosphere by playing Armenian popular songs and mingling in the hall with the presence. Some of the presence by singing with Gosdantinian’s music made the general liveliness of the event reach its maximum point.
On this occasion, Mr. Georgig Rasdgelenian, a former teacher of the college and the principal of Giligian National School and Khanamirian National School for long years, delivered his word. He was a guest in Lebanon coming from the USA. Rasdgelenian recalled his days of teaching in the college, appreciated greatly the role and the mission of Levon and Sophia Hagopian Armenian College in Diaspora, and wished for it new successes in future plans.
Mr. Vicken Avakian, the principal of the college, also had his word. He said, "No word in the dictionary could describe the joy and satisfaction that each person from the presence is enjoying now. Some previously know each other. Others, former graduates, have newly found each other after long years of separation. The college will remain because of the efforts of all, and all will remain close to the college." The principal thanked all those who had aided in the success of that event and gave the names of all those who had made donations to the college.
After the principal’s word, there was a lottery sale and its draw. The event lasted till the early morning hours by singing Karaoke songs. Old and young sang; they also competed in singing better and louder than the others. The enthusiasm that the presence felt and filled the atmosphere with turned the "Cheese and Wine" night into an unforgettable event.
