SHANT VARTANIAN PARTICIPATES IN THE SUMMER YOUTH CAMP OF THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION OF ARTZAKH

On Friday, July 16, Shant Vartanian, a recent graduate from the college, traveled to Artzakh to participate in a summer youth camp organized by the Ministry of Education of Artzakh.
Vartanian participated in one of the delegations formed on this occasion by students from graduating classes of Lebanese Armenian schools that went from Armenia to Artzakh.
The Lebanese Armenian students remain in Armenia and Artzakh for 15 days and return on July 30. During this time, they are guests at the Ministry of Education while the expenses of their transportation are provided by the administrations of their schools. This project is carried out by “Artzakh Fund” in Lebanon.

A LETTER OF CONGRATULATION

The administration and the Board of Trustees of the college congratulate Raffi Mikayelian (a graduate from the college 2002-2003) on his graduation from the conducting section of Gomidas National Conservatory of Yerevan.
The successful performance of Raffi Mikayelian at the "Aram Khatchadourian Hall" Opera House, about which "Aztag" newspaper had referred to in its issue of June 25, is the best witness of this talented musician’s bright future which would be full of his superb creativity.

SIX FORMER GRADUATES FROM THE COLLEGE GRADUATED FROM HAIGAZIAN UNIVERSITY

This summer, six former graduates from the college graduated from Haigazian University. Shahe Boniakrabian (a graduate of 2004), Khajag Ketcheji (a graduate of 2005), Pauline Margossian (a graduate of 2006), and Karni Boyajian (a graduate of 2006) got their B.A. while Raffi Basmajian (a graduate of 1999) got his M.A.

The administration of Levon and Sophia Hagopian Armenian College announces proudly that the percentage of success in the Baccalaureate Exam Life Sciences section has been 93%. Out of the 15 students who sat for the governmental exams, the following 14 have passed: Sarine Tahmizian (“Good” distinction), Natalya Aprahamian, Araks Tanielian, Salpy Donabedian, Sarine Bazarbashian, Sarine Kavafian, Sosse Kendoyan, Cristopher Megerdichian, George Parseghian, Hovig Kendoyan, Hrag Yogourdjian, Khajag Atamian, Koko Ishkhanian, and Mardig Simonian.

THE MAKE-UP EXAMS ARE THE LAST CHANCES FOR PASSING CLASSES

On Monday and Tuesday, July 19 and 20, took place the make-up exams of the college, and which were the last chances for some students who had failed in some subjects to pass their classes.
Students sat for their make-up exams in scientific subjects on Monday (Math, Physics, Biology, chemistry …) while on Tuesday make-up exams for language courses took place (Armenian, Arabic, and English).

The administration of Levon and Sophia Hagopian Armenian College announces proudly that 10 students, out of 14, have succeeded in the governmental Brevet exams. The passing students are the following: Loucine Kaplanian (“good” distinction), Anjela Daghlian, Christine Chboukjian, Marijan Sarkissian, Palig Demirjian, Rosy Avedissian, Vicki Der Movsessian, Hrant Donabedian, Kevork Sinanian, and Vrej Kndoyan.
The administration congratulates the passing students and their parents and wishes success to the students who have a second chance in sitting for the Brevet exams.

THREE PRIZES IN "KHATCHIG BABIGIAN" FUND

On Friday, June 4, 2010, the announcement of the results of the competitions in Armenian, Armenian History, and Armenian song which were held among schools took place in a celebration at the Catholicosate in Antelias. The competitions were organized by "Khatchig Babigian" Fund of the Armenian Catholicosate of Cilicia. His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great house of Cilicia, members of juries, principals of schools, teachers, and a big number of parents were present at the celebration.
Once more the college scored new successes in these competitions when three students approached proudly the table for the distribution of the prizes and got various prizes and financial awards.
Like this, Loucine Kaplanian from Grade 9 got the first prize in the intermediate section for the Armenian language, while her brother Mher Kaplanian from Grade 7 got the third prize in the intermediate section in Armenian History and Religion. On the other hand, Loucine Demirjian (BT2) got the first prize in the Armenian song.
THE PRIZE HOLDERS IN "MHER CHOULHAJIAN" COMPETITION
A week before, the results of the composition competition of "Mher Choulhajian" were also announced. The college got the first prize in the intermediate section for the Armenian composition (Loucine Kaplanian), while two students (Rosy Avedisian, Grade 9, and Tsoler Aghjian, Grade 11) got high distinctions for their compositions.

THE 43RD GENERATION

At the end of this academic year, Levon and Sophia Hagopian Armenian College prepared its 43rd generation to face the Armenian life when it fortified 38 graduates with values to serve their community as its anthem says “to justice, beauty, excellence, and humanity.”
The graduating generation ended its academic year in the college on Friday, May 7 and left the college to prepare for the exams taking with them sweet recollections and leaving behind various “mischievous” deeds and nice memories.
A day before the farewell, on May 6, the graduating students stayed in the college till the late hours of the evening to paint one of the walls of the upper playground and to decorate it with a writing calling the other students to keep the playground clean.
On May 6, the graduating students came to school wearing special t-shirts, the cost of which had been provided from the breakfast sale that they had organized to the students one day before. Water fight, singing, and dancing were the last expressions for their farewell from the college. For the last time, they visited the teachers’ room and expressed their feelings of gratitude and thankfulness to the teachers who had never saved any effort for six consecutive years to prepare boys and girls who were self-confident, conscious, and responsible for public life affairs.
After taking pictures, the graduating students went home to prepare for the official exams and to come back to school to participate in the commencement ceremony hopeful of good results.

PARTICIPATION IN COMMEMORATING
THE MARTYRS OF LEBANON

As to an annual tradition, this year, too, the students of the college didn’t forget to commemorate the memory of the Lebanese who were the victims of the Turkish government’s policy during World War I. The commemoration ceremony took place in down town Beirut in the Martyrs’ Square under the organization of the National Prelacy and the presence of the two members of Parliament, Hagop Pakradouni and Arthur Nazarian on May 6.
The college participated in the ceremony by making the opening word in Arabic (Carlos Nercessian) and by a recitation (Tsoler Aghjian). On behalf of the college, a wreath was placed in front of the martyrs’ monument.
On this occasion, messages were delivered in Arabic and Armenian by Saro Tontian, the chancellor of the Prelacy and Bishop Khegham Khatcherian, the Prelate of the Armenian Prelacy in Lebanon.

THE COLLEGE PRESENTS PERU
IN THE UNITED NATIONS’ "GLOBAL CLASSROOMS" PROJECT AT THE LAU

For the past few years, the LAU’s United Nations’ "Global Classrooms" project has been gathering 1000 students from hundreds of Lebanese schools around it; these students meet with one another for five months and present the attitudes of different countries around the world concerning serious problems facing humanity.
For the third consecutive year, the college participated during the past months in the activities of this project. Four students, Mano Tokmakjian, Liza Bardakjian, Michael Koudouzian (BT2) and Carlos Nercessian (Grade 11), participated in the different activities which extended from December to April and presented one of the countries of Central America, Peru.
The project ended during the last weekend of April 10-11 at LAU, Byblos, in especially organized ceremonies.

PARTICIPATION IN A DANCE
FESTIVAL AMONG SCHOOLS

On Tuesday, March 30, the college participated in an annual dance festival organized by Hamazkayin and which took place in Hagop Der Melkonian theatre in the presence of principals of Lebanese Armenian Schools, art loving friends, and parents.
With the dance teacher, Varouj Chaparian, the 10-member dance group of the college danced "Aylayl Ughs" which was accompanied by the live singing of Loucine Demirjian, a student in the college, and Yervant Keshishian, a graduate from the college.
The festival which lasted for two days, March 30 and 31, presented the dancing groups of 20 Lebanese Armenian Schools.

Monday, March 29, and Tuesday, March 30 were culturally enjoyable days for the students of the intermediate classes, Grades 7 and 8, who were present on two consecutive days at different occasions; they attended the "Ararad" dancing group organized by the Armenian Cultural "Ararad" Committee of Iran and the book fair of Vahe Setian Publishing House by Hamazkayin. Besides the intermediate students, 15 students from the secondary section participated in the book fair by supervising the different stands there.

On the morning of Thursday, March 25, Lina Barek, a representative of the alumni of Jamhour College, visited the college and handed a medal to the administration of the college for the success of the "Armenian Day" which was organized in Jamhour College.
On the same occasion, Lina Barek visited the Easter sale and expressed her appreciation for the accomplished work.
Lina Barek was accompanied by Mrs. Lody Hajj, the widow of the martyr general François Hajj, Houda Farhat, a former teacher of the college (1978-1981), and a former graduate from the college, Tzoghig Manjian.

THE SECOND PRIZE IN A GENERAL KNOWLEDGE COMPETITION

On Saturday, March 27, 2010, the student office at Zavarian Student Association organized a general knowledge competition among schools with the participation of nine secondary Lebanese Armenian schools.
The general knowledge competition included 50 questions related to various fields like, history, literature, geography, science, sports, and culture. Four students from the college participated in the competition; Suzan Sahagian, Tsoler Aghjian, Melik Bedrossian, and Koko Dishchekenian.
The college won the second prize. The first prize was won by Hamazkayin’s Melankton and Haig Arslanian Jemaran while Armenian Evangelical Central High School won the third prize.

PRESENTATION OF "GOGIGIAN FUND"
TO THE SECONDARY STUDENTS

On Thursday, March 18, representatives of the newly established fund "Gogigian Fund", Suheila Hayek and Hasmig Donoyan, visited the college and had a meeting with the students of Grades 11, 12, BT2, and BT3 where they introduced the aims of establishing that fund and its services.
"Gogigian Fund" has been established as a memory to the famous Lebanese Armenian diplomat Jean Gogigian (1921-2003) who has been the ambassador of Lebanon and the General Consul in Iran, Colombia, Peru, Czechoslovakia, and Poland. The fund provides a full university scholarship to students with high distinctions, and who intend to work in Lebanese governmental institutions later.

AN UNFORGETTABLE LESSON
"THE CRY OF THE ORPHANS’’

On Friday, March 19, the students of the college were taught a different lesson by visiting "Emil Lahoud" conference hall where they watched the documentary "The Cry of the Orphans" which was organized by the National Prelacy and taken the initiative by Misak Keleshian.
All the classes of the college were present at the display of the documentary except the classes Grades 9 and 12, who are getting prepared for the official exams. For more than one hour, students watched with great dismay and agitated moods a documentary, which was revealed from German archives, about the orphans who had settled in Lebanon after the Armenian Genocide. The film presented the awfulness of what had taken place before 95 years and the terrifying reality of its consequences.
After the display of the film, Bishop Khegham Khatcherian, the Prelate of the Armenian Diocese in Lebanon, addressed the students and asked them to be reminiscent of the legacy of the one and a half million martyrs.

PARTICIPATION IN A UNIFIED ACTIVITY
ON THE OCCASION OF TEACHER’S DAY

The teachers’ staff of the college participated in a unified activity on the occasion of Teacher’s Day which was held in Yeghishe Manougian National School at the noon of Saturday, March 6. The activity which was organized by the Educational Council of the National Body was under the patronage and presence of the Prelate of the Armenian Diocese in Lebanon, Bishop Kegham Khatcherian.
Not only the students of the college but also the teachers participated in the program. The dancing group of the college presented an Arabic dance, and Loucine Demirjian and Garine Shadoyan presented solos and duos. Overwhelmed by the atmosphere of the activity, the superintendent of the college, Mr. Robert Kurdian, presented a song while Mrs. Madlen Vartanian, the Armenian teacher at the college, a literary piece.
During the activity, "Hi Food" distributed its aids to the principals of the present schools for the academic year 2009-2010.

AN INTERMEDIATE AWARD
"LET’S KNOW OUR LANGUAGE"

The college took the initiative of setting an award for the students of the intermediate section with "Let’s Know Our Language" theme during March.
100 students from Grades 7 and 8 participate in this competition which is participating during the four weeks of the month in spelling, composition writing, reading, and reciting competitions.
The competitions are held in the hall of the college during the last periods of each Friday. The students who get the best results in these four competitions, in addition to a list of presents, will be exempted from the final exam in Armenian.

The income of this unprecedented thing of "Hi Food" which is organized by the National Prelacy will be devoted to the national schools to support the education of the new generations.
